Vacation with a three month old

Vacation with a three month old. For us this meant a seven hour car ride. So we decided that we would leave around midnight, after her last bottle, she would sleep most of the way right? Wrong!! She did not sleep on the trip really at all. I did a lot of planning for this trip, all that will be posted in the Planning / Organizing section. So traveling with a three month old was going to be interesting. The only places we had been where to Target and Walmart. I did not know what to expect.

We drove five hours I think to the first destination. We wanted to shop first, my mom and I. Then we headed to meet up with my hubby and his parents in the mountains. So we drove all night, and arrived about 8am. We stopped at Denny’s to eat, where I fed her and we ate. Once I figured out that every three hours you have to stop and feed her or change her along the way the drive was not so bad. Figuring that out was funny since we thought she would sleep. Nope, she wanted to stay awake and talk to us the whole time.

We met up with the rest of the family, settled into our room, and enjoyed the fresh air of the mountains. I would so love to the live in the mountains. So peaceful. By the time we all got together for dinner, she had crashed. She was so tired. She is so good though, she would really only fuss for a diaper change and a bottle once she had that taken care of she just looked around at everything or slept on me.

I felt like I brought the whole house with me, her pillow, blankets, clothes, pack n play for her to sleep in, bottles, liners, formula. Everything I thought I would need I brought. This is also why we knew we would need two cars to take all of her things and then all of Daddies things too for him to camp. Normally I camp too, but not going to happen with a three month old. Here she is on the couch in our room with her pillow. I also brought along her bouncer chair for her to sit in too.

We ended up being there during a festival. So after everyone had gone to the festival and heard everyone play. They all came back to the hotels and played their music around a fire. It was her first fire. She fell asleep, it was nice and chilly but next to the fire it was very warm and cozy. We had a good time listening to them play and just hanging out.

We drove up the mountain some to hang out and just enjoy the scenery. Its so lovely, this water flows, and the sound just takes over any other thought you might have had. It so beautiful. The wind blows through the trees, the animals run around like you are not even there, and the clouds that give it that haze. All of it is just breathtaking. Even though we go every year and every year it still takes my breath away. I of course had to stop and feed her, but that was just the norm. We took some family pictures, she was getting tired after being fed. I put her in the front carrier and tried to wear her while I walked around, but she did not like that too much.

I bought her this panda outfit and she was too stinking cute in it. While we where shopping I found this little panda with its own blanket. So it was the perfect combination. Her little panda with her little panda outfit. I love seeing these pictures together and seeing how her emotions change while taking the pictures. My mom and I went shopping while my hubby and his family did their thing, till we met up. While shopping, it was a juggling act. She would sleep on me in the carrier, or just holding her, then it was time to eat, then I would have to find a place to change her. Then the process would start over again. I would be doing the same thing had we been at home, but the different is the accommodations. It made me very thankful for a changing table, and changing tables in places like Walmart and Target since these places did not have things like that. So i ended up finding a corner of the store and sitting down with her pulling out the changing mat and just changing her. People where nice, asked me if I needed anything. Hubby on the other hand, kinda freaked out by it all. He was like I do not understand how you do this and how you have been doing this for days. Well the fact is that I would be doing the same at home, only difference is now I have to find other means to change her. I have to have her bottles ready, hot water on me so I can warm up her bottles, or if she gets hungry enough she will eat them luke warm. You do what you have to do. She enjoyed playing with Daddy while getting ready for bed.

We had a good time, it was nice and relaxing just to sit on the porch and listen to the rain and watch the storm roll over the mountain that was behind us. The shopping was fun, and she had a good time hanging out with her parents and grandparents. I would like to take her camping when she gets old enough, not sure if that means walking or if that means a little older. I am glad we went. The trip home was easier because we learned that if you have someone in the back with her she does not get as frustrated and will play. Even when she was sleeping and we stopped somewhere we also learned that you need to go ahead and change her. If you don’t five minutes down the road she will cry for a change.
