Welcome to the April Glitter Queens Blog Hop, featuring Happy Birthday Items. Today we are doing a U-Fold card.
Today we are making a U Fold Card. Credit goes to MayMay for the dimensions of this card.
The first thing to do is cut your pieces so we can decorate. This is an A4 card size, so it fits in a normal size envelope.
You need three pieces for this card. The first piece is 8 x 4 1/4. The second is 5 1/2 x 3. The last is 4 x 1 3/4
On the first piece that is 8 x 4 1/4 on the 8 inch side you will score at 1 1/4, 2 1/2, 5 1/2, and 6 3/4.
On the second piece that is 5 1/2 x 3, score on the 3 inch side at 1 1/4 and then turn to the right on the 5 1/2 inch side and score at 1 1/4 only down to the scored line and then again at 4 1/4 only to the scored line.
The last piece that is 4 x 1 3/4 score at 3 1/2 then turn and score again at 3 1/2. This will give a 1/2 inch score on each side.
You can go ahead and decorate these pieces if you like, I chose to get all my other pieces together first.
The video walks through each step of the pieces, water coloring, and putting the card together.
For the basket, I used the new Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder that was offered during Sale A Bration, and is caring over to the new catalog. I used Soft Suede and then sprayed both sides of the card stock with water then ran it through the Big Shot. Then I used the basket Framelit and cut it out.
The stamp set is Picnic For You and the Picnic Basket Builder Framelits. Now to build up the contents of the basket. Stamp each item you would like and cut out with the framelits. The apple is in Real Red, Bread in Soft Suede, berry basket in Marina Mist with Cherry Cobbler berries, salt and pepper shaker in Basic Grey, cheese in So Saffron, hanker chief in Cherry Cobbler, and the muffins I used markers Pacific Point and Chocolate Chip, then Tangerine Tango and Crumb Cake. Then glue the straps to the front of the basket, along with the hanker chief. Then on the back build up the food one piece at a time. Place this to the side.
From the Picnic Basket Builder Framelits I cut a piece of Old Olive to 1 inch. Then use the strip of grass to cut out two pieces.
To decorate the front of the card, In the Trees stamp set is the perfect size. This set does not have framelits. Stamp and fussy cut out, I used my Brother Scan N Cut. Then colored them using the Aqua Painter. I used Lemon Lime Twist for the tree, and Soft Suede for the trunk. The Squirrel and acorn are colored with markers in Crumb Cake. The raccoon is done with Basic Grey, and the rabbit is colored with crumb cake first then Smokey Slate over that.
I also stamped out the banner piece and happy birthday.
For the card base I used water color paper. For the background piece that is 8 x 4 1/4 I measured at 2 1/2 inches from the top to give me a place to decorate above. Water color grass using the grass we cut out of the old olive from the framelite set. I built up the colors, starting with Lemon Lime Twist, Pear Pizzazz, Wild Wasabi using a sponge. Then water colored with the Aqua Painter above that. I first used Soft Sky then added Marina Mist for depth for the sky part.
On the piece that goes across the bottom that is 5 1/2 x 3 I took the grass cut out and sponged using the same three green colors to build up the green grass for the bottom layer. Then cut the two squares on the top right and left out only cutting to the other score line.
After the green grass is layered up, I then glued down the raccoon and the rabbit. Then the green grass cut outs. Then the trees, squirrel and acorn. I placed the Happy Birthday Across the two animals. Now this section is done.
For the card base construction, take the card and place is upside down fold the first score line towards the back then flip the whole card front side up and fold the next section in. Then do the same thing on the other side. Then the brace piece goes in. Lay the card flat and take the 1/2 inch score line and lay it next to the score line of the card base. From there glue on the 1/2 inch scored line. Place the card base on top of it to pick up the brace. Do the same thing on the other side. Then take the bridge piece and glue it into place, glue on just the side pieces that touch the card base.
The birds I glued in they are from the Flying Home Stamp Set, I used markers to color them in. The acorn, and animals came from We Must Celebrate set.
For the picnic basket, take the adhesive strips and put on the top and bottom. Fold down the bridge and make sure it is set, then add the basket on top of that and it will hold down the flap. When you want to fold it up to mail you can push back the basket and pull up the front flap.
